what a GORGEOUS setup! i agree, the price is a tad high, but the find is great inspiration to create one on a smaller budget. can’t wait to go shopping and find some look-a-likes! great find!!! =D

Quality has its price. Alessi makes a product like this in smaller production compared to the mass production that we see in the USA or China, which also explains their price. That is part of the appeal.
This salad serving set is also more expensive because of all the extra components. It seems to provide good value since all the pieces are reusable separately. I would have to see it in person to fully judge if it worth it.
Better to ask it for your birthday or your wedding, like you said.
