I love throwing parties - a friend and I just threw a wonderful baby shower for one of our neighbors, I used several ideas I picked up on this site! 2007 was a really rough year for me and so far 2008 has been a great year for new beginnings, one of the things I look forward to the most is the first dinner party at my next new place. What a fun-sounding book! I used love hosting parties, but have recently become intimidated. Here’s the issue: my husband is a diplomat with the US State Department and we just moved to our first overseas post. Let me tell you, the State Dept. ladies are cocktail party veterans! Every time I start to plan something, I get freaked out that I don’t have the right glasses or china, etc and end up tossing the party plans out the window. Maybe I could find some inspiration (and determination?) in this book!

I am giving a 75th birthday party for my grandpa, my son’s 2nd birthday party, a graduation party for my sister and a farewell party for my friend all in the next 4 weeks. I could sure use some inspiration!!!

My husband and I are still students (well, okay, he is the student in medical school while I am the student of someone-has-to-pay-the-bills We definitely live on a tight budget but my love for entertaining usually tightens that budget even more! I used to have BBQs every Sunday, before we moved, and I would invite all my friends, sometimes having 30+ people attend. Since we moved (my husband active duty USMC) I haven’t had one single get together. I need to change that, and if I won, that’s what my winnings would go to, stuff for that get together.

This note is for Cheryl–comment 202. Since I can’t email you from here, I hope you see this comment. I was so excited to read your comment about your playgroup. You see, about 21 years ago, I went to my first playgroup meeting. My girls were newborn and 2 yrs old. We have been through several changes, but the original 4 are still together. WE STILL GET TOGETHER! (the moms I mean). All of our kids are grown, with the exception of 3 young girls who are part of the second families. Playgroups rock!!

Oooh kitchen stuff for sure! I have a weird obsession about buying things just because C&B makes them look so cool. Olive picker anyone? I don’t even like olives.

I would LOVE a signed copy of the book. I enjoy entertaining and am always looking for new ideas, shortcuts and innovative ways of pulling together a party. I’m hosting the 4th of July family get together this year and I most definitely need to buy some serving pieces and table decor!
