I love throwing parties – a friend and I just threw a wonderful baby shower for one of our neighbors, I used several ideas I picked up on this site! 2007 was a really rough year for me and so far 2008 has been a great year for new beginnings, one of the things I look forward to the most is the first dinner party at my next new place. What a fun-sounding book! I used love hosting parties, but have recently become intimidated. Here’s the issue: my husband is a diplomat with the US State Department and we just moved to our first overseas post. Let me tell you, the State Dept. ladies are cocktail party veterans! Every time I start to plan something, I get freaked out that I don’t have the right glasses or china, etc and end up tossing the party plans out the window. Maybe I could find some inspiration (and determination?) in this book!

I am giving a 75th birthday party for my grandpa, my son’s 2nd birthday party, a graduation party for my sister and a farewell party for my friend all in the next 4 weeks. I could sure use some inspiration!!!

I used to have BBQs every Sunday, before we moved, and I would invite all my friends, sometimes having 30+ people attend. Since we moved (my husband active duty USMC) I haven’t had one single get together. I need to change that, and if I won, that’s what my winnings would go to, stuff for that get together.

You see, about 21 years ago, I went to my first playgroup meeting. My girls were newborn and 2 yrs old. We have been through several changes, but the original 4 are still together. WE STILL GET TOGETHER! (the moms I mean). All of our kids are grown, with the exception of 3 young girls who are part of the second families. Playgroups rock!!

Wow, I would be one lucky girl to win this. I am in the midst of change in my kitchen, and this would be a lovely inspirational compliment to get the gears going at full throttle.

I love to entertain, so this would be great to win. My party tip would be to always keep your pantry stocked with snacks like cans of nuts, a jar of olives, nice crackers, soda/seltzer so when guests stop by, I can set out a tray of food. It also helps to keep the ice cube trays filled.

I would pick up neat paper products, because no one wants to be stuck on dish duty the next day and a few mix machines. The rest would be spent on great food.

A multi room party lets everyone find something to suit them…how about a poker game in the den, charades in the living room, and a pick-up game in the backyard! Place single serve items in a common area with some seating. This way guest can help themselves.

We desperately need storage solutions in our home since having our daughter (now, 14 months old) and our son is due in June. I’d spend the gift certificate on stuff to store their baby essentials and toys.
As for party advice, I can say that adults LOVE party games. If you find some good, silly relay races, you will have people in hysterics and will create a very memorable event.

A friend of mine made up this great party snack- pretzels, Hersey kisses (in all different flavors, especially peanut butter), and m&ms. Put a Hersey kiss on all the pretzels and pop them in the oven for a few minutes. When they come out place an m&m on top and put in the freezer to cool. They are soo good and always a big hit. Especially cute- if you order m&ms with a saying on them. If I won the give-away I’d make them for a hostess gift put “thank you” on some, “love, patrice” on others and place them on an adorable Crate & Barrel platter!

Oh what a great give-away. I would most certainly head to Crate and Barrel. I love entertaining, and my favorite dessert drink is Baileys and Espresso Vodka, but I need some of those really cool martini glasses that sit in a bowl of crushed ice to make them an even bigger success. I love to entertain, and come up with a great spread to wow my guest, but with a full time job, and a knack for procrastination I can’t wait to read this book for inspiration on how to do it best last minute style.

I would use the gift certificate towards a big comfy chair. I know it should be party related, and we never have enough seating. Someone always ends up sitting on the floor.

My favorite party advice is to delegate. Potluck dinners are great and when friends ask if they can help, let them. It makes for a much better party!

Wow, what a great giveaway! I know just what I’d spend the $100 on, a new rug for my kitchen. My poor outdated rug is in desperate need of a makeover. With a messy, learning-to-eat, 9-month old, the rug has seen it’s better days. You can’t walk on the rug without stabbing your foot with some 2-week old crumb and it’s certainly not too good for my son to be crawling around on either. Please, momma needs a new rug!!

When I throw a party, it’s usually hosted cooperatively by a friend or two. We either cook a simple main dish (barbecue!) and have people potluck the rest or we order in pizza – not very chic, but easy for 50-100 people of mixed ages and preferences. Then we provide dessert.

Homebaked goodies are always a runaway favorite and I have some awesome cake recipes I’d love to try in silicone bakeware.

Do not forget interactive activities, there is nothing worst than a click party, one group of friends on one side of the room and another group on the other side. Have games, 20 questions to get everyone involved, mixing and mingling!

What a fun book! I love entertaining. My best advice for parties is to set a timer for a certain amount of time before guests arrive so that I’m forced to stop whatever last-minute preparations I’m in the middle of, pour myself a glass of wine, and go get myself ready for the party! We’re currently putting in a backyard, so if I were lucky enough to win the C+B gift card, I would probably spend it on outdoor entertaining accessories.

I would most definitely use the gift card to get a new set of bowls and plates to entertain with. Mine is a horrible mish-mash of thrown together things that don’t match — it would be lovely to have something that looks pulled-together for once!

OMG!! I’m excited to start reading The Last Minute Party Girl. I’m sure it’s a great read for a party girl like me.. I know exactly what items I’m getting from C&B. I’d spend my gift certificate on the Seaside melamine plates, they come in 2 sizes and have a design that invokes images of seashells. Next, I’d get the pitcher with insert. The insert keeps the beverage cold with ice but without the watering down effect. Or, I might use it on Pima Cotton sheets. With 450 thread count, they look so luxurious. And, as far as my favorite party advice…. don’t power clean the day before the party, take two days and spread it out. Relax during the day of, if you can. Thanks for letting me dream.
