<p>Today&#8217;s <a title="real parties" href="http://www.hostessblog.com/category/occasions-ideas/real-parties/" target="_self"><strong>Real Party</strong></a> feature – a colorful <span style="color: #e7362e;"><strong>Curious George-inspired birthday party</strong></span> – comes from the talented <strong>Esther</strong> of <a title="My Bride Story" href="http://mybridestory.com/index2.php" target="_blank"><strong>My Bride Story</strong></a>.</p>
<p><span style="color: #e7362e;"><strong>There are so many things I LOVE about this party, but here are a few stand-outs</strong>:</span></p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #e7362e;">1.</span> </strong>From the <strong>&#8220;milk shooters&#8221; topped with chocolate chip cookies</strong> to the colorful &amp; contemporary <strong>DIY felt garlands</strong>, this party is filled with wonderfully creative ideas that are both <strong>stylish</strong> &amp; <strong>budget-friendly</strong>!</p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #e7362e;">2.</span> </strong>In lieu of regular birthday presents, <strong>all gifts were given directly to charity</strong>.</p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #e7362e;">3. </span>The <span style="color: #e7362e;">concept</span> behind the party is very inspiring&#8230;and is even reflected in the chosen venue.</strong> More details on this below, but here&#8217;s one of my favorite comments from Esther: &#8220;<em>It has been an incredible journey for our family this year, and we wanted to use this occasion to honor those who have supported us and Grant with their gracious support and wisdom</em>.&#8221;</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/curiousgeorge_birthdayparty_2.jpg" alt="Curious George birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/curiousgeorge_birthdayparty_26.jpg" alt="Curious George birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p>Read on for <strong>LOTS more pics and all the party details</strong>, as told by <strong>Esther</strong>&#8230; <span id="more-11186"></span></p>
<p><span style="color: #e7362e;"><strong>*****</strong></span></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/curiousgeorge_birthdayparty_25.jpg" alt="Curious George birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p>&#8220;One of the first things you may notice about our son, Grant are his &#8220;monkey ears&#8221;.  They stick up a bit and it always reminded us of the book, &#8220;<strong><em>Curious George</em></strong>&#8220;, <strong>so this was the perfect theme to go with for his first birthday party</strong>!</p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #e7362e;">The main concept behind the party</span> was to provide a fun and casual atmosphere at a photo studio where the kids and parents could have opportunities to take their own fun family pictures while helping us celebrate Grant&#8217;s first year of life.</strong></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/curiousgeorge_birthdayparty_20.jpg" alt="Curious George birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p>Since all gifts/proceeds were going directly to support the foundation, &#8220;<a title="giving children hope" href="&lt;http://www.gchope.org/&gt;" target="_blank"><strong>Giving Children Hope</strong></a>&#8221; (due to the recent events in Haiti), I wanted to keep things in line and make the party <strong>simple and budget friendly</strong>. We raised a total of <strong>$900 for the foundation</strong> and sent the check right after the party!</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/curiousgeorge_birthdayparty_7.jpg" alt="Curious George birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p><span style="color: #e7362e;"><strong>*****</strong></span></p>
<p><span style="color: #e7362e;"><strong>OUTDOOR DECORATIONS:</strong></span><br />
The blue lanterns that hung from the tree were borrowed from my sister. We placed a red wagon, (<em>which was borrowed from <strong>Kristine</strong> of </em><strong><em>The Final Touch</em>)</strong>, in front of the couches and stored ice-cold drinks in it.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/curiousgeorge_birthdayparty_19.jpg" alt="Curious George birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p>The <strong>wheat grass boxes</strong> and the <strong>floral arrangements</strong> were donated by <strong>Jina</strong> from <strong>T.H.E. Flower</strong>, and I made paper pinwheels to line the the walkway in the grass that welcomed the guests.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/curiousgeorge_birthdayparty_13.jpg" alt="Curious George birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/curiousgeorge_birthdayparty_14.jpg" alt="Curious George birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p><span style="color: #e7362e;"><strong>*****</strong></span></p>
<p><span style="color: #e7362e;"><strong>INDOOR DECORATIONS:</strong></span><br />
<strong>The dessert table rang with the colors red, yellow and blue</strong>, and (<em>along with the help of one of my assistants &#8211; <strong><a title="Little Room LA" href="http://littleroomla.com/" target="_blank"><strong>Angela</strong></a></strong></em>) I made some garlands featuring these colors out of felt and yarn.</p>
<p>These garlands are actually hanging next to Grant&#8217;s crib as we speak, because I didn&#8217;t want to throw them away after the party!</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/curiousgeorge_birthdayparty_6.jpg" alt="Curious George birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p><strong>Kayla</strong> of <a title="Kayla's Kakes" href="http://www.kaylaskakes.com/index2.php#/home/" target="_blank"><strong>Kayla&#8217;s Kakes</strong></a> kindly provided the <strong>cookie lollipops with mini cupcakes</strong>, and the <strong>monkey logo</strong> was made by <strong>Heather</strong> of <a title="Chickabug" href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/chickabug" target="_blank"><strong>Chickabug</strong></a>.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/curiousgeorge_birthdayparty_4.jpg" alt="Curious George birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/curiousgeorge_birthdayparty_5.jpg" alt="Curious George birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/curiousgeorge_birthdayparty_3.jpg" alt="Curious George birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p>The <strong>jelly beans</strong>, <strong>lemon drops</strong> and <strong>twizzlers</strong> were purchased from <strong>Sweet Factory</strong> and <strong>Smart&amp;Final</strong>, and the blue runner and 6-ft tables were rented from <a title="Kiki Events" href="http://www.kikievent.com/mall/index.php" target="_blank"><strong>KiKi Events</strong></a>.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/curiousgeorge_birthdayparty_12.jpg" alt="Curious George birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/curiousgeorge_birthdayparty_8.jpg" alt="Curious George birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p>On the other side of the dessert bar were <strong>rows of milk shooters with chocolate cookies on top</strong>, <strong>popcorn chips</strong>, and bottles of fruit juice from <a title="World Market" href="http://www.worldmarket.com/home/index.jsp" target="_blank"><strong>Cost Plus World Market</strong></a> (I LOVE THIS STORE!).</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/curiousgeorge_birthdayparty_10.jpg" alt="Curious George birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/curiousgeorge_birthdayparty_15.jpg" alt="Curious George birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p><strong>I made the birthday hats</strong> out of decorative paper, attached some pompoms on top, made a small hole and tied the elastic bands together and secured them with staples.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/curiousgeorge_birthdayparty_17.jpg" alt="Curious George birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p>The main course was tacos provided by <a title="Adolfo's Mexican Food" href="http://www.yelp.com/biz/adolfos-mexican-food-laguna-beach" target="_blank"><strong>Aldofo&#8217;s Mexican Food</strong></a> catering truck and we also served some Costco pizza for the inner-child in all us grownups.  For those opting for a healthier meal, we offered <strong>fruit skewers</strong> and <strong>triangle-cut sandwiches</strong>.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/curiousgeorge_birthdayparty_9.jpg" alt="Curious George birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/curiousgeorge_birthdayparty_15.jpg" alt="Curious George birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/curiousgeorge_birthdayparty_16.jpg" alt="Curious George birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p><a title="Don &amp; David Photography" href="http://www.dondavidstyle.com/" target="_blank"><strong>Don &amp; David Photography</strong></a> contacted us a few weeks before the party and generously offered to take pictures and also all our friends&#8217; baby and family pictures!  Thank you!</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/curiousgeorge_birthdayparty_22.jpg" alt="Curious George birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/curiousgeorge_birthdayparty_21.jpg" alt="Curious George birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p><strong>It has been an incredible journey for our family this year, and we wanted to use this occasion to honor those who have supported us and Grant with their gracious support and wisdom.</strong></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/curiousgeorge_birthdayparty_23.jpg" alt="Curious George birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p><strong>The goal was to make this event meaningful and memorable, <span style="color: #e7362e;">hoping that this will lay the foundation to teaching and educating our son to care for others when he gets older</span>. </strong></p>
<p>At times, we can whine and complain about what we don&#8217;t have, but as we took a step back to analyze this past year with Grant, <strong>we realized how lucky we are</strong> to have our basic needs met and loved ones around us.&#8221;</p>
<p><span style="color: #e7362e;"><strong>*****</strong></span></p>
<p>A big thanks to <a title="My Bride Story" href="http://mybridestory.com/index2.php" target="_blank"><strong>Esther</strong></a> for all the wonderful inspiration – in regards to both the party details and life in general!</p>

<p>I have to admit that today&#8217;s <a title="real parties" href="http://www.hostessblog.com/category/occasions-ideas/real-parties/" target="_blank"><strong>Real Party</strong></a> feature makes me extra-happy&#8230; because it was inspired by a theme found right here at HWTM! <a title="Mesmirizing Moments Photography" href="http://www.mesmerizingmoments.com/" target="_blank"><strong>Jennifer Gentry</strong></a> took our <a title="bedtime story baby shower" href="http://www.hostesswiththemostess.com/themes/baby_showers/bedtime_story_baby_shower/" target="_blank"><strong>Bedtime Stories Baby Shower</strong></a> and spun it into a seriously fabulous birthday party for her son!</p>
<p><strong>There are so many clever elements to this party&#8230;</strong> from the <span style="color: #f28e17;"><strong>&#8220;story book&#8221; style invitations</strong></span> and <span style="color: #f28e17;"><strong>ultra-creative</strong> <strong>thank you notes</strong></span> to a ridiculously adorable <span style="color: #f28e17;"><strong>fondant bed</strong></span> – <em>complete with pillows, books, teddy bear, and flashlight nonetheless!</em></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/bedtimestories_birthdayparty_3.jpg" alt="bedtime stories birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p>Read on for <strong>lots more images &amp; all the party details</strong>, as told by <strong>Jennifer</strong>&#8230; <span id="more-11041"></span></p>
<p><span style="color: #f28e17;"><strong>*****</strong></span></p>
<p>&#8220;<strong>I fell in LOVE when I saw the <a title="bedtime story baby shower" href="http://www.hostesswiththemostess.com/themes/baby_showers/bedtime_story_baby_shower/tabletop" target="_blank">Bedtime Stories theme</a> on HWTM!</strong> I knew right away that is what I wanted to do, and Connor&#8217;s favorite thing is reading books with us, so even he got excited!</p>
<p><span style="color: #f28e17;"><strong>Invitations</strong></span><br />
<strong>When I told my friend about the theme she gave me the idea to do &#8220;books&#8221; for invites.</strong> Since I am a photographer, the invites were my favorite part, and I had so much fun putting them together.  I made little &#8220;books&#8221; written from Connor&#8217;s point of view about turning 3 and his party. They were a huge hit!</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/bedtimestories_birthdayparty_9.jpg" alt="bedtime stories birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p><span style="color: #f28e17;"><strong>Decorations</strong></span><br />
I LOVED the idea from HWTM about <a title="bedtime story baby shower" href="http://www.hostesswiththemostess.com/themes/baby_showers/bedtime_story_baby_shower/tabletop" target="_blank"><strong>making the table a bed</strong></a>, so I knew that was a must.</p>
<p>Since we had all the main food on the island in the kitchen, I decided to make the <strong>dessert &#8220;bed&#8221; </strong>the prettiest one.  I got the duvet cover &amp; pillowcase from <strong>Ikea</strong> for only $19.99, and found little blue pillows for only $2. <strong>I wrapped orange string around the blue pillows</strong> to make them a little prettier.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/bedtimestories_birthdayparty_12.jpg" alt="bedtime stories birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p>The <strong>bed canopies</strong> were from Ikea too (<em>only 9.99 each!</em>), as well as the throw blankets (<em>just $7.99</em>). I set everything up on the table, along with stacks of books that I&#8217;d <strong>covered with decorative paper</strong> so that they would match well.</p>
<p>I also <strong>covered glass cylinders</strong> with the same paper used on the books, embellished them with alphabet stickers, and filled them with orange flowers.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/bedtimestories_birthdayparty_5.jpg" alt="bedtime stories birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p>I decorated the ceiling of the kids play room with <strong>strings of tissue paper poms</strong> and hung <strong>paper lanterns</strong> all over the house.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/bedtimestories_birthdayparty_15.jpg" alt="bedtime stories birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p><strong>For the food labels</strong>, I punched out moon and star shapes with a craft punch, then used toothpicks to stick them in little fondant books that I’d made.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/bedtimestories_birthdayparty_8.jpg" alt="bedtime stories birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p><strong>I hung another bed canopy above the kids table</strong>, covered the table with matching fabrics, and added plastic buckets filled with party toys.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/bedtimestories_birthdayparty_11.jpg" alt="bedtime stories birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/bedtimestories_birthdayparty_7.jpg" alt="bedtime stories birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p><span style="color: #f28e17;"><strong>The Menu</strong></span><br />
<strong>Although I didn’t get many photos of the main food set-up, there was a lot of it!</strong> In addition to trays of trays of cheese, vegetables, crackers, and fruit, I made parfait cups, caprese skewers, ham &amp; cheese skewers, turkey wraps, mini twice baked potatoes, lil smokies, and pigs in a blanket.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/bedtimestories_birthdayparty_10.jpg" alt="bedtime stories birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p><strong>For dessert</strong> I made <a title="cream-filled strawberries" href="http://www.marthastewart.com/article/filled-strawberries?comments_page=1" target="_blank"><strong>cream-filled strawberries</strong></a>, <strong>mini brownies</strong>, <strong>marshmallow pops</strong>, <strong>lemon cupcakes with fondant decorations</strong>, and these AMAZING <a title="chocolate and strawberry cupcakes" href="http://www.tidymom.net/2010/02/chocolate-strawberry-cupcakes.html" target="_blank"><strong>Chocolate and Strawberry Cupcakes</strong></a>!</p>
<p>The cupcakes were a HUGE hit, and the only change I made was swapping out the cream cheese frosting from chocolate-flavored to regular so that I could dye it to match the party.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/bedtimestories_birthdayparty_4.jpg" alt="bedtime stories birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/bedtimestories_birthdayparty_6.jpg" alt="bedtime stories birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p>For the top of the desert stand I made a <strong>fondant bed</strong> with a little teddy bear, flashlight, and books. It looked so cute! We also had an ice cream bar set up on the counter top.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/bedtimestories_birthdayparty_2.jpg" alt="bedtime stories birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p><span style="color: #f28e17;"><strong>Activity</strong></span><br />
<strong>I had all the kids come in their pajamas to stick with the theme</strong>, and since they were too small for &#8220;real&#8221; activities, I just made the play room baby-friendly and set all of Connor&#8217;s toys out for play.</p>
<p><strong>The kids played great together and the adults enjoyed lots of chatting time over great food.</strong> Since there were no set “projects” for the kids, it made it easy for the adults to just relax and socialize.</p>
<p><span style="color: #f28e17;"><strong>Party Favors</strong></span><br />
I found cute little book bags at the party store and made little hang tags for them that matched the food labels. <strong>In the favor bags for the babies</strong> I put in a little stuffed bear and an Elmo bedtime book.  <strong>Toddlers received</strong> glow bracelets, suckers, fairytale finger puppets, sticker books, a coloring book, and crayons.  They looked really cute!</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/bedtimestories_birthdayparty_14.jpg" alt="bedtime stories birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p><span style="color: #f28e17;"><strong>Thank You Notes</strong></span><br />
Since there were so many people &amp; kids that attended, we decided not to open presents at the party.  I had Connor open them the next day, and <strong>I took pictures of him opening each one</strong>, then I made <strong>storyboards for each guest</strong> with the photos of him opening the present that they gave him.</p>
<p>Everybody loved them, and it was great because <strong>they still got to see him open their present</strong>, but without the chaos of the party!&#8221;</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/bedtimestories_birthdayparty_13.jpg" alt="bedtime stories birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p><span style="color: #f28e17;"><strong>*****</strong></span></p>
<p>Thanks again to <strong>Jennifer</strong> for sharing this with us!</p>

<p>I stumbled upon this absolutely<strong> </strong>AMAZING<strong> Alice in Wonderland-inspired party</strong> on photographer <a title="jessica claire photographer" href="http://www.jessicaclaire.net/" target="_blank"><strong>Jessica Claire&#8217;s blog</strong></a> a while back, and even though it&#8217;s been almost 3 years since the party actually took place, it still remains as <strong>one of the most adorable kids parties</strong> I&#8217;ve ever seen&#8230;</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/aliceinwonderlandparty_2.jpg" alt="Alice in Wonderland Party Ideas" /></p>
<p>It also feels <strong>especially timely to feature this theme right now</strong> with Disney&#8217;s new <a title="alice in wonderland movie 2010" href="http://adisney.go.com/disneypictures/aliceinwonderland/" target="_blank"><strong>Alice in Wonderland movie</strong></a> by Tim Burton opening in theaters today&#8230; <em>which I personally can&#8217;t wait to go see in IMAX 3D</em>!</p>
<p>Something tells me there are going to be a LOT of <strong>&#8220;Wonderland&#8221; themed celebrations</strong> popping up this year<em>&#8230; and hopefully for all ages –  I love the idea of tailoring the Wonderland theme to adult parties too &#8211; like milestone birthdays, bridal showers, and whimsical engagement parties!</em></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/aliceinwonderlandparty_15.jpg" alt="Alice in Wonderland Party Ideas" /></p>
<p>This <strong>colorful tea party</strong> was actually a combined celebration for <strong>3 different birthday girls</strong>, and each guest of honor received her own <strong>fabulously decked-out birthday girl chair</strong>: <span id="more-10963"></span></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/aliceinwonderlandparty_8.jpg" alt="Alice in Wonderland Party Ideas" /></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/aliceinwonderlandparty_9.jpg" alt="Alice in Wonderland Party Ideas" /></p>
<p>The rest of the guest chairs were embellished with lots of <strong>brightly colored artificial flowers &amp; greenery</strong>:</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/aliceinwonderlandparty_13.jpg" alt="Alice in Wonderland Party Ideas" /></p>
<p><strong>Place settings</strong> included real china tea cups, colorful utensils, rhinestone details for added sparkle, and a princess wand for each girl to decorate:</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/aliceinwonderlandparty_5.jpg" alt="Alice in Wonderland Party Ideas" /></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/aliceinwonderlandparty_6.jpg" alt="Alice in Wonderland Party Ideas" /></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/aliceinwonderlandparty_7.jpg" alt="Alice in Wonderland Party Ideas" /></p>
<p>The ultra-creative &#8220;<strong>whimsical flower garden</strong>&#8221; featured giant flowers and an enchanted carousel horse with fairy wings!</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/aliceinwonderlandparty_17.jpg" alt="Alice in Wonderland Party Ideas" /></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/aliceinwonderlandparty_16.jpg" alt="Alice in Wonderland Party Ideas" /></p>
<p><strong>Alice</strong> was even there to do a little <strong>face painting</strong>&#8230;</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/aliceinwonderlandparty_14.jpg" alt="Alice in Wonderland Party Ideas" /></p>
<p>&#8230; as well as a <strong>petting zoo</strong>, complete with lots of <strong>bunny rabbits</strong>, of course!</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/aliceinwonderlandparty_10.jpg" alt="Alice in Wonderland Party Ideas" /></p>
<p><strong>A couple more shots of the guests enjoying themselves</strong>&#8230; does this look like a fun party or what?!</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/aliceinwonderlandparty_12.jpg" alt="Alice in Wonderland Party Ideas" /></p>

<p>*****</p>
<p>Thanks so much to photographer <a title="jessica claire photographer" href="http://www.jessicaclaire.net" target="_blank"><strong>Jessica Claire</strong></a> for all of the beautiful and &#8220;<strong>WONDERfully</strong>&#8221; inspiring images (<em>pun intended</em>)! =)</p>

<p><strong>Today&#8217;s <a title="real parties" href="http://www.hostessblog.com/category/occasions-ideas/real-parties/" target="_blank">Real Party</a> feature is full of so much great DIY inspiration</strong>&#8230; not to mention the fabulous color palette and wonderfully contemporary vibe! It&#8217;s a colorful &#8220;<strong>Dol</strong>&#8221; (<em>traditional Korean first birthday celebration</em>) that <a title="mel and angi" href="http://www.meliandangi.com/" target="_blank"><strong>Angie Bae</strong></a> created for her adorable daughter <strong>Lila</strong>.</p>
<p>There are so many <strong>meaningful &amp;</strong> <strong>handcrafted</strong> details in this party&#8230; from the creative <strong>cookie invitations</strong> and fabulous <strong>paper globe centerpieces</strong> (<em>representative of family members</em>) to <strong>handmade candy pillars</strong> (<em>see below</em>), a <strong>shimmery cake</strong> inspired by Lila&#8217;s hanbok, and more!</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/koreanfirstbirthdayparty_2.jpg" alt="contemporary Dol - traditional Korean first birthday party" /></p>
<p>Read on for<strong> lots more images and all the party details</strong>, as told by Angela&#8230; <span id="more-10753"></span></p>
<p><span style="color: #ec008c;"><strong>*****</strong></span></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/koreanfirstbirthdayparty_4.jpg" alt="contemporary Dol - traditional Korean first birthday party" /></p>
<p>&#8220;For Lila&#8217;s dol/Korean first birthday party, the inspiration came easily when I first saw her <strong>hanbok</strong> (<em>traditional Korean dress</em>.) <strong>I loved the combination of pinks, white and lime green.</strong> They reminded me of Lila&#8217;s <strong>bubbly and happy personality</strong>, so we incorporated them into all the party details.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/koreanfirstbirthdayparty_3.jpg" alt="contemporary Dol - traditional Korean first birthday party" /></p>
<p><span style="color: #ec008c;"><strong>Invitations/Cookies</strong></span><br />
Along with invitations from <a title="tiny prints" href="http://www.tinyprints.com" target="_blank"><strong>Tiny Prints</strong></a>, we included a set of <strong>&#8220;button&#8221; sugar cookies</strong> in pink and green from <a title="Meli and Angi cookies" href="http://www.meliandangi.com" target="_blank"><strong>Meli &amp; Angi</strong></a>. Guests either received a set that read <strong>lila</strong>/<strong>1</strong> or <strong>chook</strong>/<strong>dol</strong> (<em>1st birthday</em>) in Korean characters.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/koreanfirstbirthdayparty_6.jpg" alt="contemporary Dol - traditional Korean first birthday party" /></p>
<p>Cookies were placed in a plastic case and filled with white tissue shred for cushioning.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/koreanfirstbirthdayparty_7.jpg" alt="contemporary Dol - traditional Korean first birthday party" /></p>
<p><span style="color: #ec008c;"><strong>Elevator Photo Greeting</strong></span><br />
Since the party was on the 4th floor, we printed out photos of Lila and taped them in the elevators to greet guests. It reads &#8220;<strong>Oh! You made it. I&#8217;m on the 4th floor!</strong>&#8221; I love Lila&#8217;s &#8220;<em>oooh!</em>&#8221; expression in this photo:</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/koreanfirstbirthdayparty_9.jpg" alt="contemporary Dol - traditional Korean first birthday party" /></p>
<p><span style="color: #ec008c;"><strong>Photo Wall</strong></span><br />
When you enter the space, there is a blank wall <strong>so we filled it with large sized photos of Lila</strong>. They were from different months in her first year, and <strong>displayed like a gallery setting</strong>. We used 3M temporary hooks so we wouldn&#8217;t damage the walls/paint.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/koreanfirstbirthdayparty_5.jpg" alt="contemporary Dol - traditional Korean first birthday party" /></p>
<p><span style="color: #ec008c;"><strong>What Will Lila Pick? Board</strong></span><br />
The &#8220;<strong>doljabee</strong>&#8221; is a traditional element of the Dol. Items are laid out in front of the baby for her to choose from. The item that she picks will foretell her path in life. <strong>Money</strong> = wealth. <strong>Pencil</strong> = scholar. <strong>Thread</strong> = long life. <strong>Rice</strong> = never go hungry. We also added in a <strong>Mic</strong> = musical and an <strong>Abacus</strong> = intelligence.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/koreanfirstbirthdayparty_11.jpg" alt="contemporary Dol - traditional Korean first birthday party" /></p>
<p>Guests wrote their names on ballots and put them in the pocket they thought Lila would choose. From the selected item, we randomly chose guests to win prizes. Lila picked the abacus first, followed by the rice.</p>
<p><span style="color: #ec008c;"><strong>Centerpieces &amp; Banner</strong></span><br />
These paper globes were made by following <a title="paper ball template" href="http://heatherbailey.typepad.com/heather_bailey/2008/01/global-heart-wa.html" target="_blank"><strong>Heather Bailey&#8217;s template</strong></a>. Each centerpiece includes globes of varying height <strong>to represent our family of 3</strong>.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/koreanfirstbirthdayparty_10.jpg" alt="contemporary Dol - traditional Korean first birthday party" /></p>
<p>The &#8220;<strong>planter</strong>&#8221; is a white bakery box with green scrapbooking paper and pink ribbon arranged to look like 3 stripes of varying widths. The &#8220;<strong>stems</strong>&#8221; were trimmed down wooden dowels (<a title="wooden dowels" href=" http://www.homedepot.com/Building-Materials-Moulding-Millwork-Dowels/h_d1/N-5yc1vZ1xqdZaqif/R-100582451/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&amp;storeId=10051&amp;catalogId=10053" target="_blank">purchased at Home Depot</a>) and bbq skewers wrapped in green tissue paper. We stood them in floral foam and topped each planter with green crinkle cut paper shred (from Michaels).</p>
<p>The globes themselves were made from various scrapbooking papers found on Amazon. For Lila&#8217;s birthday banner, we used the same scrapbooking paper to have consistent colors.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/koreanfirstbirthdayparty_8.jpg" alt="contemporary Dol - traditional Korean first birthday party" /></p>
<p><span style="color: #ec008c;"><strong>Birthday Cake</strong></span><br />
Lila&#8217;s <strong>&#8220;hanbok&#8221; cake</strong> was made by <strong>Ruth Shin</strong> of <a title="brooklyn cake" href="http://www.brooklyncake.com" target="_blank"><strong>Brooklyn Cake</strong></a>. It was strawberry shortcake with buttercream filling, and so delicious! We love that she was able to translate Lila&#8217;s hanbok into a cake&#8230; especially the ribbon detail.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/koreanfirstbirthdayparty_12.jpg" alt="contemporary Dol - traditional Korean first birthday party" /></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/koreanfirstbirthdayparty_13.jpg" alt="contemporary Dol - traditional Korean first birthday party" /></p>
<p><span style="color: #ec008c;"><strong>Go-Ims</strong></span><br />
The birthday table traditionally has go ims (<em>pillars</em>) on display. To personalize them, I used red beans and Korean rice puffs to make:<strong> 1)</strong> a mouse <em>because Lila was born in the year of the mouse</em>,<strong> 2)</strong> &#8220;Sora&#8221;, <em>her Korean name</em> and <strong>3)</strong> &#8220;chook dol&#8221; in Korean characters.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/koreanfirstbirthdayparty_15.jpg" alt="contemporary Dol - traditional Korean first birthday party" /></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/koreanfirstbirthdayparty_16.jpg" alt="contemporary Dol - traditional Korean first birthday party" /></p>
<p>I also made 2 more using white, green and pink Mentos in stripes and flower designs.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/koreanfirstbirthdayparty_18.jpg" alt="contemporary Dol - traditional Korean first birthday party" /></p>
<p>In front, we have plates of <strong>fruit</strong> and <strong>dduk</strong> (<em>Korean rice cakes</em>) which later get packaged for guests to take home.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/koreanfirstbirthdayparty_14.jpg" alt="contemporary Dol - traditional Korean first birthday party" /></p>
<p><span style="color: #ec008c;"><strong>Dduk To Go</strong></span><br />
To package the dduk for guests, we used plain white take out boxes and printed out thank you labels with pink stripes from <a title="avery labels" href="http://avery.com" target="_blank">Avery</a>.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/koreanfirstbirthdayparty_19.jpg" alt="contemporary Dol - traditional Korean first birthday party" /></p>
<p><span style="color: #ec008c;"><strong>Lollipop Garden</strong></span><br />
Guests were also welcome to take lollipops from this &#8220;<strong>garden</strong>&#8220;. All the materials used to make it were found at Michaels &#8211; a wooden CD crate, floral foam, green crinkle cut paper shred, individual letters that spell out her first and middle/Korean name, paint and craft glue.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/koreanfirstbirthdayparty_17.jpg" alt="contemporary Dol - traditional Korean first birthday party" /></p>
<p>We are so glad that <a title="mary jane photography" href="http://www.maryjanephotography.com" target="_blank"><strong>Mary Jane Photography</strong></a> and some of our very talented friends (Albert, Sandy, Susan and Sam) were able to help us remember Lila&#8217;s dol through photos. I still can&#8217;t believe Lila&#8217;s 1st year has come and gone. It really did fly by, but I remember every moment like it just happened.</p>
<p><strong>I love you Lila!</strong>&#8221;</p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #ec008c;">*****</span></strong></p>
<p>Thanks again to Angie for the fabulous party inspiration!</p>

<p><strong>Today&#8217;s Real Party feature looks like every little girl&#8217;s dream!</strong> This adorable &#8220;<strong>Fairy Sweet</strong>&#8221; theme was created by <strong><a title="erin volante floral" href="http://erinvolantefloral.blogspot.com/" target="_blank"><strong>Erin Volante</strong></a></strong> for her (<em>equally adorable!</em>) daughter Amelia&#8217;s birthday celebration.</p>
<p>The colorful party features a fabulous combination of<strong> <span style="color: #e94385;">magical fairies and dazzling sweet treats</span></strong> like pixie stix, a pink &amp; purple toadstool cake, pink marshmallows, and more&#8230; what&#8217;s not to love?!</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/fairysweetbirthdayparty_2.jpg" alt="fairy birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p>Read on for all the details, <strong>as told by </strong><strong><a title="erin volante floral" href="http://erinvolantefloral.blogspot.com/" target="_blank"><strong>Erin</strong></a></strong>, and TONS of beautiful images from photographer <strong><a title="sarah maxey photo" href="http://www.sarahmaxeyphoto.com/" target="_blank"><strong>Sarah Maxey</strong></a></strong>, who caught all of the magic on camera&#8230; <span id="more-10658"></span></p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #e94385;">*****</span></strong></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/fairysweetbirthdayparty_5.jpg" alt="fairy birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p>&#8220;When Amelia decided she wanted a fairy party for her birthday (<em>MANY months before the actual date)</em> my brain went into overdrive&#8230; I was thrilled to have a theme that wasn&#8217;t based off of a particular show or character! <strong> Leaves more room for imagination! </strong></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/fairysweetbirthdayparty_13.jpg" alt="fairy birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p><strong>We lucked out and got a beautiful fall day. </strong>We started the party off inside, and the girls each decorated little paper bags&#8230;</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/fairysweetbirthdayparty_19.jpg" alt="fairy birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/fairysweetbirthdayparty_10.jpg" alt="fairy birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p>They used these bags for the party game that I&#8217;d planned – an outdoor &#8220;<strong>fairy scavenger hunt</strong>&#8221; complete with sweet little fairy doors. The girls were asked to find a glittery pinecone, an autumn leaf, a bag of fairy dust, a magic wand, a pretty feather, etc. (<em>My back-up plan was to move the game indoors if the weather was bad.</em>)</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/fairysweetbirthdayparty_17.jpg" alt="fairy birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p><strong>When the girls had all gathered their goods, we also had a sweet little fairy tea party outside. </strong>We read a few fairy stories and they just played&#8230; lots of running, giggling and ring around the rosie!</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/fairysweetbirthdayparty_8.jpg" alt="fairy birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/fairysweetbirthdayparty_18.jpg" alt="fairy birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/fairysweetbirthdayparty_4.jpg" alt="fairy birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p><strong>The fairy doors were a big hit&#8230;</strong> the pink one is still on the tree in our front lawn and Amelia checks it every single morning to look for sleeping fairies!</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/fairysweetbirthdayparty_25.jpg" alt="fairy birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/fairysweetbirthdayparty_20.jpg" alt="fairy birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p>We then went in to have cake (and LOTS of sweets!).</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/fairysweetbirthdayparty_9.jpg" alt="fairy birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p>A super-sweet friend made the cake for me, and although we had a slight disaster (<em>my poor husband was tortured by this project)</em>, it turned out really adorable and Amelia could not have been more thrilled with how her request for a pink and purple toadstool turned out.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/fairysweetbirthdayparty_15.jpg" alt="fairy birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/fairysweetbirthdayparty_14.jpg" alt="fairy birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p>We also had cupcakes, &#8220;pixie stix&#8221;, marshmallows, m&amp;m&#8217;s, all kinds of good sweets at the request of the birthday girl.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/fairysweetbirthdayparty_11.jpg" alt="fairy birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/fairysweetbirthdayparty_16.jpg" alt="fairy birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p>I made &#8220;<strong>fairy berries</strong>&#8221; with inspiration from an old <a title="fairy berries" href="http://www.marthastewart.com/recipe/fairy-berries" target="_blank"><strong>Martha Stewart idea</strong></a> I found online (<em>although mine were a MUCH simpler version&#8230; come on, these kids are 3 and 4! Do they really know the difference between whipped cream in a can and the kind you slave over the stove for?!</em>)</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/fairysweetbirthdayparty_3.jpg" alt="fairy birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/fairysweetbirthdayparty_12.jpg" alt="fairy birthday party ideas" /></p>
<p><span style="color: #e94385;"><strong>Shopping Details &amp; Resources:</strong></span><br />
I kept my eyes open for MONTHS leading up to the party, picking things up here and there as I found them on clearance racks, dollar aisles, and as I had ideas. This way it doesn&#8217;t seem so overwhelming the week of the party.</p>
<p><span style="color: #e94385;"><strong>• </strong></span>The <strong>fairy cake topper</strong> is from etsy seller <a title="wee cute treasures" href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/WeeCuteTreasures" target="_blank"><strong>Wee Cute Treasures</strong></a><br />

<span style="color: #e94385;"><strong>•</strong></span> I made the <strong>sign</strong> using scrapbook paper that i already owned.<br />
<span style="color: #e94385;"><strong>• </strong></span>I made the <strong>twine/flower pom vines</strong> based on <a title="pom vines" href="http://www.oncewed.com/17979/wedding-blog/diy-wedding/diy-wedding-pom-pom-vines/" target="_blank"><strong>this tutorial</strong></a>.<br />
<span style="color: #e94385;"><strong>• </strong></span>I made the <strong>butterfly headbands</strong> with wired glitter butterflies that I picked up at the floral wholesalers, but they were super easy to do!&#8221;</p>

<p><strong>Today&#8217;s Real Party feature is full of such sweet, creative, and surprisingly budget-friendly details! </strong>It&#8217;s a charming <strong>Sweet Shoppe theme</strong> that <strong>Aisha Holly</strong> of <a title="dooby design group" href="http://www.doobydesign.com/" target="_blank"><strong>Dooby Design Group</strong></a> created for her adorable daughter <strong>Kimora</strong>&#8217;s 4th birthday party.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/sweetshoppebirthday_2.jpg" alt="pink sweet shoppe birthday party" /></p>
<p>From <strong>tissue poms</strong> and s<strong>trawberry parfaits</strong> to a <strong>cool DIY table</strong> and <strong>mini cupcakes</strong> (<em>made by dad!</em>), read on for all the perfectly pink, kid-friendly details, <strong>as told by Aisha herself</strong>&#8230; <span id="more-10493"></span></p>
<p><span style="color: #f1707c;"><strong>*****</strong></span></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/sweetshoppebirthday_3.jpg" alt="pink sweet shoppe birthday party" /></p>
<p>&#8220;<strong>When designing my daughter&#8217;s 4th birthday party, the most important element was creating a space for little kids, so everything was created through the eyes of a four year old.</strong> Me and my husband scouted every resource we had; family, friends and local discount stores to find specific pieces. We wanted everything to be the height of a four year old.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/sweetshoppebirthday_10.jpg" alt="pink sweet shoppe birthday party" /></p>
<p><span style="color: #f1707c;"><strong>Table Design</strong></span><br />
<strong>We purchased an 8ft table top from Ikea (only $14.99) to use as the main play table. </strong>My husband then used shoe racks from our closet (which were about 1ft in height) and attached them to the bottom of the table to serve as table &#8220;legs&#8221;.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/sweetshoppebirthday_7.jpg" alt="pink sweet shoppe birthday party" /></p>
<p><strong>Instead of chairs we opted for custom pillow seats.</strong> I went to Joann Fabrics and selected four different fabrics to make custom pillow covers. They turned out amazing, thanks to my mother-in-law! <em>We were able to use the pillows after the party as part of her bedroom decor.</em></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/sweetshoppebirthday_14.jpg" alt="pink sweet shoppe birthday party" /></p>
<p>I designed <strong>custom placemats</strong> for each guests place setting and accented the table with <strong>pink carnations</strong>.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/sweetshoppebirthday_16.jpg" alt="pink sweet shoppe birthday party" /></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/sweetshoppebirthday_8.jpg" alt="pink sweet shoppe birthday party" /></p>
<p><span style="color: #f1707c;"><strong>Dessert/Candy Buffet</strong></span><br />
<strong>I wanted the candy/dessert buffet to have a unique look.</strong> I didn&#8217;t want to use the typical rectangle table. Plus, I wanted to keep it at the height of the kids&#8230; so I decided to create a space that <strong>resembled a kids play area</strong>. Instead of toys, though, we used candy &amp; desserts. It turned out so pretty!</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/sweetshoppebirthday_21.jpg" alt="pink sweet shoppe birthday party" /></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/sweetshoppebirthday_18.jpg" alt="pink sweet shoppe birthday party" /></p>
<p><strong>First I found a great silver and white polka dot vinyl table cloth from Ikea </strong>($3.99). We used this as the backdrop to the buffet area. I found the <strong>Martha Stewart paper pompoms </strong>at Big Lots (<em>only $2.48 for a pack of 6!</em>). We used three of the 6 to add a little color to our back drop.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/sweetshoppebirthday_6.jpg" alt="pink sweet shoppe birthday party" /></p>
<p><strong>We then gathered small pieces of furniture we already had around the house</strong>: my daughter&#8217;s white bench (Target), my sister&#8217;s bathroom white cube (Target), one white shoe rack (Ikea) and a mirrored side table (Target) and used them as the main display furniture.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/sweetshoppebirthday_10.jpg" alt="pink sweet shoppe birthday party" /></p>
<p><strong>I also designed paper elements to go along with the rest of the party decor</strong>: custom candy bar wraps, labels for the take out boxes, labels for the pink sack bags ($2.99 at Michaels) and a framed buffet sign.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/sweetshoppebirthday_13.jpg" alt="pink sweet shoppe birthday party" /></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/sweetshoppebirthday_20.jpg" alt="pink sweet shoppe birthday party" /></p>
<p>The candy was purchased from various local stores. (Home Goods, Target, Meijers, Walmart).</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/sweetshoppebirthday_12.jpg" alt="pink sweet shoppe birthday party" /></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/sweetshoppebirthday_15.jpg" alt="pink sweet shoppe birthday party" /></p>
<p>My husband made the mini cupcakes and yogurt covered pretzel sticks, and the cupcake cups and white pearl icing toppers were purchased from <a title="the baker's nook" href="http://www.shopbakersnook.com/78.html?sm=64477" target="_blank"><strong>The Baker&#8217;s Nook</strong></a>.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/sweetshoppebirthday_19.jpg" alt="pink sweet shoppe birthday party" /></p>
<p><span style="color: #f1707c;"><strong>Signature Drinks</strong> </span>- pink lemonade and strawberry milk. I designed labels and affixed them to translucent pink cups embellished with pink straws.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/sweetshoppebirthday_17.jpg" alt="pink sweet shoppe birthday party" /></p>
<p><span style="color: #f1707c;"><strong>Menu</strong></span> &#8211; Chicken Alfredo and Shrimp Alfredo<br />
<span style="color: #f1707c;"><strong>Dessert</strong></span> &#8211; Strawberry Parfaits</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/sweetshoppebirthday_11.jpg" alt="pink sweet shoppe birthday party" /></p>
<p><span style="color: #f1707c;"><strong>Gifts</strong></span> &#8211; In addition to the candy, we gave all the children a wrapped box of playdo, go fish cards and crayons.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/sweetshoppebirthday_9.jpg" alt="pink sweet shoppe birthday party" /></p>
<p><span style="color: #f1707c;"><strong>Attire</strong></span> &#8211; Dress, shoes and sparkle tights (BabyGap)</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/sweetshoppebirthday_4.jpg" alt="pink sweet shoppe birthday party" /></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/sweetshoppebirthday_5.jpg" alt="pink sweet shoppe birthday party" /></p>
<p>Kimora had an absolute wonderful time but mom could not move the next day!! <strong>LOL, but it was all worth it!</strong> <img src='http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> &#8221;</p>

<p>I stumbled across these adorable <a title="nylon ladybugs" href="http://butterflycraze.com/ladybugs.php" target="_blank"><strong>nylon ladybugs</strong></a> recently and thought they&#8217;d be the perfect starting point for a <strong>Modern Ladybug party theme</strong>!</p>
<p>Ladybugs are always cute for <strong>kids birthday parties</strong> and &#8220;<strong>Lovebug</strong>&#8221; <strong>Valentine&#8217;s Day parties</strong>, but this theme can even translate beautifully for a <strong>girlie baby shower or bridal shower</strong>.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/ladybugpartyideas_2.jpg" alt="ladybug birthday valentines party ideas" /></p>
<p><strong>For adult-friendly parties</strong>, just make sure to focus on decorative elements that are chic &amp; stylish, as opposed to overly &#8220;cutesie&#8221;; for example – the <strong>grass &amp; gerbera flower arrangements</strong> pictured below, contemporary polka dot partyware, and a cool red signature drink like a <a title="raspberry collins recipe" href="http://www.hostesswiththemostess.com/recipe_box/raspberrycollins" target="_blank"><strong>Raspberry Collins</strong></a> or <a title="watermelon mojitos" href="http://www.mojitocompany.com/pages.php?pageid=12" target="_blank"><strong>Watermelon Mojito</strong></a>.</p>
<p><strong>Whatever your particular occasion may be – from a 1st birthday to a bridal shower – here&#8217;s some inspiration to get you started&#8230; <span id="more-10117"></span><br />
</strong></p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #d41810;">*****</span><br />
</strong></p>
<p><strong>Pictured above: </strong><br />
<span style="color: #d41810;"><strong>• </strong></span>Embellish rolled black napkins with &#8220;<strong>napkin ring</strong>&#8221; made from a strip of cardstock and a <a title="foam lady bug decorations" href="http://www.orientaltrading.com/ui/browse/processRequest.do?demandPrefix=11&amp;productId=IN-57/2303&amp;mode=Searching&amp;requestURI=processProductsCatalog&amp;xsaleSku=70/4113&amp;sku=57/2303&amp;cm_sp=Cross%20Sell-_-Product%20Detail-_-Product%20Detail" target="_blank"><strong>foam ladybug</strong></a> topper.<br />
<span style="color: #d41810;"><strong>• </strong></span>Decorate <a title="red paper cups" href="http://www.platesandnapkins.com/pan/solid-color-party-supplies/solid-classic-red-party-supplies/solid-classic-red-hot-cold-paper-cups-9-oz.html" target="_blank"><strong>solid red paper cups</strong></a> with <a title="black circle stickers" href="http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/112821/Avery-Color-Coding-Removable-Round-Labels/" target="_blank"><strong>round black stickers</strong></a>. Use these as drink cups for kids, or as <strong>cute containers</strong> for serving up mini-sized desserts or salads/pastas.<br />
<span style="color: #d41810;"><strong>• </strong></span>More tableware &amp; decor finds: <a title="ladybug paper plates" href="http://www.babyshowerstuff.com/ladybugdinplt.html" target="_blank"><strong>Modern Ladybug Dinner Plates</strong></a>; <strong>Just Dots Black &amp; White</strong> <a title="just dots napkins" href="http://www.platesandnapkins.com/pan/party-supplies-by-pattern/polka-dot-party-supplies/just-dots-black-and-white-beverage-napkins.html" target="_blank"><strong>Beverage Napkins</strong></a> and<a title="just dots plates" href="http://www.platesandnapkins.com/pan/party-supplies-by-pattern/polka-dot-party-supplies/just-dots-black-and-white-7-inch-paper-plates.html" target="_blank"><strong> 7&#8243; Dessert Plates</strong></a>; <a title="red utensils" href="http://www.platesandnapkins.com/pan/solid-color-party-supplies/solid-classic-red-party-supplies.html" target="_blank"><strong>Red Utensils</strong></a>; <a title="ladybug balloons" href="http://www.celebratetheday.biz/ladybug.html" target="_blank"><strong>27&#8243; Foil Balloon</strong></a>, <a title="ladybug cookies" href="http://www.thebabblingbaby.com/products/ladybug-cookies.html" target="_blank"><strong>Ladybug Cookies</strong></a> (<em>for party favors</em>); <a title="ladybug party theme" href="http://www.celebratetheday.biz/ladybug.html" target="_blank"><strong>Ladybug Frame</strong></a> (<em>super cute for displaying pics of the guest of honor</em>), and <a title="ladybug cupcake toppers" href="http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=39262781" target="_blank"><strong>Ladybug Cupcake Toppers</strong></a>.</p>

<p><strong>Centerpieces:</strong><br />
For floral-based centerpieces that match this theme, try a combo of gerbera daisies, wheat grass or artificial grass mats, and ladybug accents, such as the foam ladybugs mentioned above, which you could attach to floral wire to create &#8220;picks&#8221; for the arrangements. {<em>see image resources below</em>}</p>

<p>Today&#8217;s <a title="real parties" href="http://www.hostessblog.com/category/occasions-ideas/real-parties/" target="_self">Real Party</a> feature comes from <strong>Jamie</strong> at <a title="giggle dust parties" href="http://giggledustparties.com/" target="_blank"><strong>Giggle Dust Parties</strong></a> and is just <strong>WAY TOO CUTE</strong>!</p>
<p>It&#8217;s a super-colorful &#8220;<strong>Night Owl Pajama Club</strong>&#8221; theme featuring tons of adorable details (<em>like that ridiculously cute owl pillow from Target!</em>), a sweet make-your-own sundae dessert bar, and a <em>fabulous</em> bedtime-inspired table and &#8220;<strong>Night Owl Clubhouse</strong>&#8220;&#8230; does this sound like a little girl&#8217;s dream party or what?!</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/nightowl_pajamaparty_12.jpg" alt="Night Owl Pajama Slumber Party Ideas" /></p>
<p>Read on for all the fun details, <strong>as told by Jamie&#8230;</strong></p>
<p><span id="more-9745"></span></p>
<p>*****</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/nightowl_pajamaparty_1.jpg" alt="Night Owl Pajama Slumber Party Ideas" /></p>
<p>&#8220;I created this &#8220;<strong>Night Owl Pajama Club Party</strong>&#8221; for my daughter Mackenzie’s 8th Birthday!</p>
<p>The inspiration for this party came from several things: my daughter’s wish to have a sleepover party, an adorable stuffed pillow I saw at Target, and the fabulous <a title="bedtime story baby shower" href="http://www.hostesswiththemostess.com/themes/baby_showers/bedtime_story_baby_shower" target="_blank"><strong>“bed” tables</strong></a> from Jenn at <strong><a title="hostess with the mostess" href="http://www.hostesswiththemostess.com" target="_self">HWTM</a></strong> and Donna at <a title="party wishes" href="http://partywishesscv.com/pages/Slumber.php" target="_blank"><strong>Party Wishes</strong></a>.</p>
<p><a title="pajama party" href="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/nightowl_pajamaparty_5b.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/nightowl_pajamaparty_4.jpg" alt="Night Owl Pajama Slumber Party Ideas" /></a></p>
<p><span style="color: #a2865d;">*{<em>Click on above image to view the table larger!</em>}</span></p>
<p>This party was hosted in the evening from 7-9pm and <strong>the girls came dressed in their favorite PJs</strong>.</p>
<p>The activities of the party centered around the girls becoming members of the “<strong>Night Owl Pajama Club:</strong> <em>Night Owls love to stay up late, dance in the dark, hang out with their friends at the Night Owl Clubhouse and dine on their favorite snacks: cupcakes and ice cream sundaes!</em>&#8221;</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/nightowl_pajamaparty_5.jpg" alt="Night Owl Pajama Slumber Party Ideas" /></p>
<p><strong>The “bed” was designed from two twin comforters that were sewn together to act as a tablecloth.</strong> I used a coordinating sheet set for the pillow cover and bed sheets that were visible at the head of the bed.</p>
<p>The plates and mugs were from <strong><a title="rosanna" href="http://rosannainc.com/" target="_blank">Rosanna Inc</a></strong>, and I found the brown chargers on the fall closeout aisle at <a title="target" href="http://www.target.com" target="_blank"><strong>Target</strong></a>. They really were a perfect match and made the plates pop!</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/nightowl_pajamaparty_8.jpg" alt="Night Owl Pajama Slumber Party Ideas" /></p>
<p>The napkins were sewn by my Mother using material we found at a local fabric store.</p>
<p>And, last but not least, my hubby made me the headboard and footboard that completed the bed table!</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/nightowl_pajamaparty_10.jpg" alt="Night Owl Pajama Slumber Party Ideas" /></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/nightowl_pajamaparty_3.jpg" alt="Night Owl Pajama Slumber Party Ideas" /></p>
<p><strong>My favorite element of the party was the Night Owl Clubhouse.</strong> I mean really, how cool is this..!</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/nightowl_pajamaparty_2.jpg" alt="Night Owl Pajama Slumber Party Ideas" /></p>
<p><strong>A girly retreat </strong>with pretty fabrics, plush comfy pillows, and your best girl friends to chat with!</p>
<p>This was the clubhouse that I always tried to build myself as a child but was never really able to pull it off with the dining room chairs and various knitted afghans from around the house!</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/nightowl_pajamaparty_6.jpg" alt="Night Owl Pajama Slumber Party Ideas" /></p>
<p>I had so much fun designing the sundae bar trying to channel the “Amazing Amys”: <a title="amy atlas" href="http://www.amyatlasevents.com" target="_self"><strong>Amy Atlas</strong></a> and <strong>Amy</strong> at <a title="eat.drink.chic" href="http://eatdrinkchic.com/post.cfm/diy-ice-cream-parlour-make-your-own-sundaes-buffet-concept-for-wedding-or-party#respond" target="_blank"><strong>Eat.Drink.Chic</strong></a>&#8230;</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/nightowl_pajamaparty_16.jpg" alt="Night Owl Pajama Slumber Party Ideas" /></p>
<p>I used a <strong>shower curtain from Target for the backdrop</strong>, various containers from <a title="HomeGoods" href="http://www.homegoods.com" target="_blank"><strong>HomeGoods</strong></a> to hold the toppings, and the Soda Fountain Cups by Rosanna, Inc.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/nightowl_pajamaparty_15.jpg" alt="Night Owl Pajama Slumber Party Ideas" /></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/nightowl_pajamaparty_17.jpg" alt="Night Owl Pajama Slumber Party Ideas" /></p>
<p>Not bad for a first try! <strong>More importantly, the girls loved it and really enjoyed making their own sundaes! </strong>I knew the party was a success when I overheard several girls saying that “this was the best party EVER!”</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/nightowl_pajamaparty_9.jpg" alt="Night Owl Pajama Slumber Party Ideas" /></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/nightowl_pajamaparty_14.jpg" alt="Night Owl Pajama Slumber Party Ideas" /></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/nightowl_pajamaparty_7.jpg" alt="Night Owl Pajama Slumber Party Ideas" /></p>
<p>*****</p>
<p>Thanks again to Jamie for sharing this adorable party with us! =)</p>

<p><strong>Me want cookies!</strong> And you will too after checking out this adorable <strong>Cookie Monster-themed <a title="cookie monster party" href="http://www.hostessblog.com/category/occasions-ideas/real-parties/" target="_self">Real Party</a></strong> that <strong>Stephanie Stach</strong> created for her son Alex&#8217;s 3rd birthday.</p>
<p>From adorable <strong>cups, party hats,</strong> and <strong>cupcakes</strong> inspired by <strong>our favorite sugar-loving monster</strong> to<strong> cookie-jar favors</strong> and <strong>giant cookies on sticks</strong>, this party is loaded with tons of <strong>sweet</strong> &amp; super creative details!</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/cookiemonsterparty_11.jpg" alt="Cookie Monster party ideas" /></p>
<p><strong>Read on for all the details</strong>, as told by Stephanie&#8230; <span id="more-9318"></span></p>

<p>&#8220;I saw the <a title="cookie monster party" href="http://www.hostessblog.com/2009/09/c-is-for-cookie-monster-party/" target="_self"><strong>adorable cookie monster cupcakes</strong></a> on HWTM, and immediately knew that it would be the perfect theme for our son Alex&#8217;s third birthday.  It was so much fun to use the <a title="cookie monster party" href="http://www.hostessblog.com/2009/09/c-is-for-cookie-monster-party/" target="_blank"><strong>inspiration board</strong></a> as a starting point and build a party around it.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/cookiemonsterparty_3.jpg" alt="Cookie Monster party ideas" /></p>
<p><strong>To make things easier to coordinate</strong>, I chose to go with many different shades of blue&#8230; it isn&#8217;t that easy to find the perfect cookie-monster blue!  I made blue pom-poms from <a title="tissue pom tutorial" href="http://www.marthastewartweddings.com/article/pom-poms-and-luminariasto" target="_blank"><strong>Martha&#8217;s tutorial</strong></a> to hang over the buffet, found a <strong>cookie monster pinata</strong> at the local Party City, and even found <strong>bright blue spider-mums</strong> at the local farmer&#8217;s market.</p>
<p><strong>To add a little extra fun</strong>, I put the mums in a vase filled with Cookie-Krisp Cereal, and wrapped it in blue striped scrapbook paper.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/cookiemonsterparty_4.jpg" alt="Cookie Monster party ideas" /></p>
<p>I made <strong>cookie monster party hats</strong> that the kids loved by embellishing a basic blue hat with a felt mouth, googly eyes and a pom-pom and fuzzy boa (inspired found <a title="cookie monster party" href="http://www.stubbornsnails.com/draydens-first-birthday.htm" target="_blank">here</a>).</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/cookiemonsterparty_10.jpg" alt="Cookie Monster party ideas" /></p>
<p><strong>For drinks</strong>, I made the <strong>Cooking Monster cups</strong> from the <a title="cookie monster party" href="http://www.hostessblog.com/2009/09/c-is-for-cookie-monster-party/" target="_self"><strong>HWTM inspiration boar</strong></a>d by hot gluing cookies and googly eyes to blue paper cups.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/cookiemonsterparty_8.jpg" alt="Cookie Monster party ideas" /></p>
<p><strong>The food was all chosen to resemble cookies&#8230; </strong>we had round cinnamon toast topped with cream cheese and bananas, sausage biscuits, blueberry scones, and mini pizzas on the main buffet; and a separate cookie buffet with oatmeal sandwich cookies, M&amp;M cookies, chocolate crinkle cookies, triple chocolate cookies, and chocolate chip cookies on a stick. <strong></strong></p>
<p><strong>The highlight was still the Cookie Monster cupcakes</strong>, which my local bakery, <a title="sweet n sinful bakery" href="http://www.sweetnsinful.com/" target="_blank"><strong>Sweet N&#8217; Sinful</strong></a>, did a fabulous job of replicating.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/cookiemonsterparty_7.jpg" alt="Cookie Monster party ideas" /></p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/cookiemonsterparty_1.jpg" alt="Cookie Monster party ideas" /></p>
<p><strong>For a craft activity</strong>, the kids each made a <strong>Cookie Monster paper bag puppet</strong> out of bright blue bags and white and black construction paper that I precut for them.  The bags were perfect for taking home their loot from the pinata.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/cookiemonsterparty_12.jpg" alt="Cookie Monster party ideas" /></p>
<p><strong>For party favors</strong>, each child got a cookie jar filled with an assortment of cookies.</p>
<p>I found the jars at the dollar store, and embellished them with scrapbook paper, a pom-pom, and a tag that said &#8220;<strong>Alex&#8217;s Birthday was brought to you today by the letter A and the number 3.  Thanks for Celebrating with Us!</strong>&#8221;</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/cookiemonsterparty_5.jpg" alt="Cookie Monster party ideas" /></p>
<p><strong>It was a great party.</strong> Thanks so much for the inspiration!&#8221;</p>

<p>Today&#8217;s <strong><a title="real parties" href="http://www.hostessblog.com/category/occasions-ideas/real-parties/" target="_self">Real Party</a></strong> feature has got to be one of the cutest and most creative ideas I&#8217;ve stumbled upon in a while!  This adorable &#8220;<strong>Mr. Man&#8221; Theme</strong> was created by <strong>Christina Brian</strong> of the <strong><a title="full house blog" href="http://vivafullhouse.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Full House blog</a></strong> in order to celebrate the birthdays of her (super-cute) TRIPLET boys AND her brother! (<em>Side note Christina has twin girls too</em>!)</p>
<p>From a <strong>garland of ties</strong> to hilarious <strong>chocolate mustaches</strong>, this party is full of great inspiration for both <strong>birthday parties of all ages</strong> and <strong>boy baby showers</strong>&#8230;</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/boybirthdaypartyideas_11.jpg" alt="Mr. Man Birthday Party - boy and adult" /></p>
<p>Check out these fun pics &#8211; such a great idea for photo opps!</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/boybirthdaypartyideas_2.jpg" alt="Mr. Man Birthday Party - boy and adult" /></p>
<p>Read on for <strong>lots more pics &amp; all the detail</strong>s, as told by Christina&#8230; <span id="more-8916"></span></p>
<p>*****</p>
<p>&#8220;So the Mr. Man party was so much fun. The welcome sign read, &#8220;C<strong>ome One, Come All or just COMB over </strong><em>(get it!)</em><strong>&#8230;..MR. MAN PARTY &#8220;featuring&#8221; ANDREW &amp; The BOYS</strong>&#8220;.</p>
<p><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; cursor: pointer; text-align: center;" src="http://www.hostessblog.com/wp-content/uploads/uploaded_images/boybirthdaypartyideas_4.jpg" alt="Mr. Man Birthday Party - boy and adult" /></p>
<p>Yes my brother was so kind to share his birthday with my boys in which I am very grateful for&#8230;.like he really had a choice in the matter! =)</p>
<p><strong>This birthday meant that my boys were kind of a coming of age.</strong> When you hit 2 years old you&#8217;re kind of not a baby anymore so I had been a little sad to see this day come. That&#8217;s where the whole idea started unfolding in my head for a &#8220;Mr. Man Party&#8221;. If you can&#8217;t beat &#8216;em join &#8216;em.</p>
<p>Seriously it won&#8217;t be to long before they are wearing ties and carrying briefcases but hopefully not mustaches (unless they are chocolate ones on a stick). I promise to savor every last minute of these little tikes.</p>

<p><strong>The cupcakes were awesome</strong> because one of my favorite people came over and made them for me the day before the party. My Dad loved them so much that he even asked for the recipe. Perhaps I&#8217;ll post the recipe because they are sure to trick the pickiest of eaters. On second thought, I don&#8217;t know if I should because then my Dad would find out t<strong>hey were actually healthy</strong> &amp; wouldn&#8217;t eat them again. They were made with agave nectar, whole grain spelt flour, coconut oil, pineapple and carrots.</p>

<p><strong>My Mom made the shirts</strong> <em>(pictured below)</em>. The front had old ties sewed on with the back having their initial embroidered on it. <strong>Thank you Momma, they were perfect.</strong></p>

<p>Don&#8217;t worry my brother got one too, except his said &#8220;<strong>The original Mr. Ma</strong>n&#8221; on the back. We really did call him Mr. Man when he was a little boy so it was very fitting!&#8221;</p>
